Powder Room Makeover

Our bathroom make-over project started two weeks ago. Aaron called me in the evening on the way home from a poker night with the boys and asked what I was doing. I told him I was at Home Depot buying paint, I just couldn't stand the red bathroom any longer. He wasn't too pleased with my idea. So this project was definitely a labor of love especially since my husband claims "I sprang this on him" and "he wasn't prepared!" Oh dear! I told him he should know by now that when I get something in my head I just have to get started. So he jumped on board! In one weekend the painting was done, and this week I added the finishing touches, and  I'm so pleased with the results. This is our downstairs bathroom that is just a little powder room. So here you go, a little before and after action....

BEFORE:
Yikes! We picked a true red for the walls (although it looks a little orange in the pictures) I thought this was a good idea at the time, but this bathroom is under the stairs with no window, therefore it looked like a red cave. Not so attractive!

Let the fun begin!
We primed and painted the walls all white. Then began taping them off to add some stripes! We continued the tape around all four walls and then added our gray paint.
Drumroll......

AFTER:
As you enter the bathroom Here's the first view...
White shag rug from World Market

We kept all of our original lights, shelves, toilet roll, and towel holders, just gave them a face-lift with white spray paint. This chandelier was originally white. We spray painted it black two years ago when I first decorated and now we re-painted it white. (This is why my husband loves my projects)

My favorite piece is this love sign. I found the idea here and created my own off of the picture. Wood I bought for $.25 a piece at our local restore, and free handed the rest.

Towels from World Market, and starfish from Pottery Barn

As you round the corner (to do your business) this is the view...

Pottery Barn glass, starfish, and shells

Z Gallerie lantern

And wash your hands here. Cozy little corner of our house that I know adore.

It makes me smile when I walk by now. Thanks for coming by!

  6. That looks so beautiful!! It's so funny -- I just redid my dark, under the stairs, red powder room, too. AND just this week I started working on my kids' bathroom with gray and white stripes. Great minds think alike, I guess. I think the love sign you made is awesome and I ADORE those towels. Great job! Thanks for sharing.

  10. LOve the bathroom...we have a potty room in our master and this just gave me some inspiration....where is this "restore" place you got the wood from?

    1. Thank you! Our Restore store is like a second hand store of all things used in building a house. They have all sorts of used wood, doors, toilets, bathtubs, and then all the money earned goes to help Habitat for Humanity. We have one here in Fresno, not sure if they're everywhere or not. Thanks for coming by!

What pain and color did you use for the grey? I've been trying to find the perfect shade of grey nothing too dark or too light.
